Now that I know, what do I do?

I am a fundraiser in my mid-thirties. I've been in this profession for nearly 14 years and have decided that it is time for a change. However, I'm not sure what this change looks like.

My five strengths include: 1. positivity 2. relator 3. woo 4. acheiver 5. includer

I am very much a "people" person so my strength outcomes were not very much a surprise to me. I need to interact with people and feel like I am contributing to the greater good.

My question is how do I take a long career in fundraising and use my identified strengths to move to a new career (one that is possibly in the corporate world)? This is scary yet exciting at the same time.

I would welcome any feedback.

Thanks!

Hi there - I realized you posted this a while back, but I had a couple of thoughts for you. I've moved in and out of fundraising and say that the common themes in all of my positions are community and communicating. So, you might want to consider looking for a role as an executive director of a non profit organization, you can still use your fundraising skills, but learn some new skills that will complement what you already do so well. Also, I was once the community relations director for a Fortune 500 company. That was a great job organizing volunteer activites for a site of about 400 people, this included a role as the internal communication specialist as well as the discretionary giving (corporate philanthropy) program. I'm currently in university major gifs and love it even more than the work I did in more grassroot non profits. Best of luck!
